The City's Department of Planning and Development today approved a 20-unit residential rental building to be erected on a long-empty lot on Agatite, next to the 811 Uptown development.
According to information we received from Mavrek (the developer) last March, the four-story building at 843 West Agatite will be a mix of 2 bedroom/2 bath apartments, 2 bedroom/1 bath apartments, and 1 bedroom/1 bath apartments. There are 19 parking spaces included, and availability is estimated to be sometime in late 2019.
The lot the building will occupy has been empty since sometime between 1973 and 1988, seen below:

Can Uptown support all of these new developments, or are they all going to sit half occupied?
ReplyDelete....Who knows, (Maybe/Maybe-Not)!!?? ....BUT, I *LOVE* seeing all of these vacant lots, and abandoned sites filled in!! ;-)
DeleteIf you build it, they will come.
ReplyDeleteNo developer allows an apartment building to remain half-occupied. If the rents are depressed due to the large number of units, more people will be able to afford to live in Uptown. I don't share your enthusiasm for vacant lots, which are unoccupied.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they'll have any problem filling up tenants in these new apartment buildings, considering that Uptown is on prime property. Convenient to all types of transportation, "L', buses, cabs, Uber, Lyft, etc. Right off Lake Shore Drive and 20 min. from downtown. It's also convenient to practically every type of business and restaurant you can think of.
