Gas Up And Support McCutcheon Elementary

From Ald. Cappleman's latest newsletter:

"I am excited to announce a new partnership that gives the community an easy way to support a neighborhood public school.

The BP gas station at the corner of Lawrence Avenue and Marine Drive has designated a gas pump specifically for McCutcheon Elementary. Each time someone uses the pump that has the McCutcheon name and logo on it, the school will receive three cents per gallon purchased.

This amazing partnership came about after Sasafrasnet LLC contacted me about giving opportunities in the ward. The company is a wholesale distributor of BP and Mobil gas and fuel products, and the BP station at Lawrence and Marine -- not far from McCutcheon -- is included in its network of gas stations.

I connected Sasafrasnet with McCutcheon, and wonderful developments have ensued. In November, the company donated $5,000 to the school to help purchase laptops needed to run a grant-funded design studio. And now, Sasafrasnet is stepping up to provide longer-term support to McCutcheon.

McCutcheon is a high-achieving school with a very deserving student body; one quarter of the students do not have a permanent home, and the school operates a cluster program for students with cognitive disabilities, including autism. The school plans to use the funds from the dedicated gas pump to replace outdated technology, support curricular development and potentially begin a fund for a gymnasium the school hopes to build.

When your gas tank is empty, consider heading to the BP at Lawrence and Marine, where your purchase will make a difference in the community."
