Sheridan Park's Dick Uyvari Honored With a Memorial Bowling Tournament On Saturday, June 3rd
Who was Dick Uyvari? He and his partner Joe LaPat were long-time Uptowners who bought and painstakingly restored many historic homes all over Sheridan Park, helping it attain the official designation as the Sheridan Park National Register Historic District. You can read more about the homes they helped save and restore here. Dick passed away at age 71 in 2015.
In addition, he and Joe were generous sponsors of various local causes during their lifetimes. “We are excited to honor the legacy of Dick Uyvari,” said event co-chairs Kathy Caldwell and Darrick Johnson. “Dick helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities over the years, including for AIDS groups, Gay Games VII in 2006, and most recently the Hall of Fame. Dick and Joe are both inductees into the Hall of Fame for their commitment to the LGBT community.”
People can support the event by both bowling and raising pledges from friends, or they can donate to a bowler or the event itself. There are over 40 bowlers registered. For information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 773-459-8337.
The free event starts with registration at 10am followed by bowling at 11am, and wrap-up at noon. A continental breakfast is provided by Ann Sather’s Restaurant. Donations can be sent to Friends of the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame, 3712 N. Broadway, #637, Chicago, IL 60613-4235, a 501c3 nonprofit. Online donations can be made through Paypal.
