  1. Gang related? On Wilson Avenue? Who would have guessed? MEMO TO TRUMP: You can send your ATF guys in to clean out the gangs living in our federal and state subsidized housing anytime you want. Surely you have federal jurisdiction to bypass our cops on that one.

    1. .....but it was on the street, not in any subsidized housing? Plus, the gangs dont run those housings, their parents do and the parents arnt gang bangers....nice try tho

On a different note: these gangs been in uptown longer than most of these yuppies, so why dont they leave and let the gangs keep their turf? Did you not know what kinda area you were moving into? It kills me when these 'police callers' say things like 'lets take our neighborhood back' ...lol i been here since the 80s, when did you have uptown?

    2. Seb Cy- are you saying that gang neighborhoods should just be gang neighborhoods, and no one should do anything to help them?

    3. Excuse Me! I know my Uptown gang history. I've lived it for probably more years than you. The gangs that are here today are not the gangs that were here 15 years ago. The Black P Stones, who are doing most of the shooting these days, came into Uptown's Sheridan Park area via CHA scattered-site housing. It all started when Woodlawn Group became the scattered site management company for this area. Prior to that time, the former scattered site manager said that no one could not get the gangs (Gangsger Disciples) out of scattered site units, even though they had single gang members living with their off-lease buddies in townhouse units reserved for large families. Back then it was the GD's battling it out with the Latin Kings over the Broadway dividing line. So, there was a management change. Along comes the new management company, The Woodlawn Group. Suddenly the Gangster Disciples were out on their asses and in comes a new gang, the Black P Stones. We went through a whole new shooting fest as the GD's and P stones shot it out on the streets for gang territory and drug turf. I know. I was next to a P-Stone at Wilson and Broadway as a GD shot at him and blew out the window of the currency exchange, nearly killing the Hispanic woman and her two toddlers standing next to us. If you check your gang history you might look at the relationship between the Woodlawn Group and the Black P Stones. Funny thing, the scattered site management agency comes from the same Woodlawn community organization that formed the Black P Stones gang. They used the scattered site system to pump members into other neighborhoods and gain new gang territory throughout the city all at taxpayer's expense.

    4. This is the 2009 shooting that Uptown Girl references above. It was the fourth shooting at that corner in a year and a half.

  2. SEb- that is the worst response ever. You should leave too if your not for the betterment of our neighborhood. Also, if known gang members are living in their parents or aunts or grandparents houses then they should be kicked out too. Maybe they would be tougher on who lives with them if they are threatened to lose there government housing that the tax payers help pay for. Hey, I'm probably one of the yuppies you are talking about but guess what .... we will make this neighborhood a good place to live. You had your chance to make it safe. you've been trying since the 80s right? Doesn't look like you've done very well. time to pass the reins, I guess. I will repeat...your response about letting the gangs keep their turf is absurd and totally part of the problem.

  3. Seb... defender of mediocrity.

    Defender of crime and pestilence.

Who built the buildings the gangs were busy destroying in the 80's ? Did the gangs build those buildings ? Oh.. oh...

  4. @ Sy - Who built the buildings in uptown... the ones that house your failed brood ? Was that the gangs ? oh ... oh ... I didn't think so.

  5. I am always praying for it to STOP! IN ALL NEIGHBORHOODS . yes I am tired of the nose down looks because I live in affordable housing! This is my neighborhood too! So sorry that I can't just yet afford a condo! My kids don't even play in the parks due to the gangs and the "you could be at the wrong place at the wrong time"the gangs will keep trying to take over OUR! Neighborhood if we don't work together! I have no code of silence if I see it I'm telling it .

    1. I don't think people look down on you for living in affordable housing. I feel sorry for you having to try to raise kids with gang members is such close proximity trying to get your kids to join. I've worked with many affordable housing resident councils and residents over the years to try to help them deal with the situation. It makes me sick how CHA and private low income housing providers ignore their safety concerns.
