Not only has demo equipment moved to Maryville, per our earlier post, but around 2:30 this afternoon, demolition began on the circa 1950s and 1960s buildings on the site. It's been a long decade in the making, but a lot of hard work by both Aldermen Helen Shiller and James Cappleman has led to this moment. We look forward to seeing new residents and retailers on this property, which has been vacant and tax-exempt for so many years.
Thank you to reader PF sharing this.
I still think it would be nice if the stained glass windows in the west buildings were removed and reused in the new building. They'd make for a stunning lobby feature wall hat paid homage to the previous owners and the history of charitable works done on the property for decades.
