The SE corner of Lawrence & Sheridan |
Work is underway on the corner retail space of the building at 4759 N. Sheridan. This spot was the former home of many versions of troubled convenience stores, all with different names, over the years.
Word on the street is a that coffee shop that serves sandwiches is slated for the spot. A new door has been installed on the corner and the framing around the street facing windows have been painted. Peeking inside, lots of work is going on in the interior. We are hopeful this new business will be a good neighbor and keep the momentum going with the dramatic turnaround of this corner.

That's the best that they could come up with? Another coffee shop is about the last thing this neighborhood needs. how about a real bar with good food. Yes, I know there is some antiquated ordinance where you can't have booze around flop houses or churches, but that's BS. We (Uptown) already kowtows to these lesser elements. Time to move forward. Cappleman, please lead.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Pierre. A real bar, good food, hell yeah! Just like the Uptown of the old days (except for the "good food" part).
DeleteIt feels like Uptown is getting saturated with coffee shops. Is this a relatively cheap start-up?
ReplyDelete(Can we get a Bobtail Ice Cream instead?)
I'm sure we will lose some along the way but hopefully busy, and rehabbed, storefronts will eventually bring in more variety
*sniff* I never thought I'd live to see the day when people bitch about too many COFFEE SHOPS in Uptown. Game over.
ReplyDeleteAlso note that this business will also serve sandwiches. Hopefully that appeals to both of you.
Haha, yeah. Let me clarify by saying, I'll take anything we can get.
DeleteI'm more musing out loud. I wonder if this is the natural progression of businesses that occur in areas like this. First the coffee shops, then xyz business...
hereitage house just opened at the flats complex ...
DeleteI am just disappointed since the title raised my hopes that a brewery was going in. I got nothing against coffee shops
ReplyDeleteA restaurant like Hopleaf with good beer!!!
