News On Argyle StreetScape Progress, Argyle Night Market

From Ald. Osterman:

"I would like to share some important updates on the Argyle Streetscape project.

We've reached a major construction milestone, and, starting tomorrow (Friday August 5), Argyle will reopen to two-way traffic and to parking between Winthrop Avenue and Sheridan Road. This portion of the roadway is complete, with some landscaping and finishing touches to come.

In an effort to speed up completion of the entire streetscape, starting tonight (Thursday August 4), Argyle Street will be closed to traffic from Broadway to the CTA tracks to allow for paver installation. We anticipate that this portion of the street will reopen on Friday August 12.

All businesses remain open, and free parking for customers is being provided, as before, in the lot at 5026 N. Broadway.

Thank you for your patience and input during this ground-breaking shared-street project. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at harry@48thward.org or 773-784-5277.

The weekly Argyle Night Market continues from 5-9 pm TONIGHT between Kenmore and Sheridan. I hope to see you there!"

  1. Wait...it's going to be two ways? I thought they were keeping it one way between Sheridan and Broadway. Oy.

    1. I went to one of the original meetings and suggested it be one way to increase the flow of traffic....they looked at me like I lost my mind. I said traffic backs up like crazy on the weekends....its funny how the people making and planning this stuff don't even live in the area to see how it really is going to effect the people.

  2. This is going to be absolute chaos, and I will bet $$$ that in two or three years--tops!--it will all be torn back out and returned to the way it was.
