Fatal Shooting on Lake Shore Drive Sunday Morning

Photo by Marco Stendardo on Twitter
A 35-year-old man who was riding in a car heading northbound on Lake Shore Drive early this morning was killed when shots were fired from another car.

It happened around 5am near Montrose. The car continued going until it crashed into a light pole near Foster. The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic in critical condition and passed away there. Two other people in the car were uninjured.

It seems targeted, given that the police say that the car from which shots were fired pulled up next to the car in which the victim was riding. Road rage? Gang-related? Was anyone involved from Uptown? We don't know anything more than what the police department's official statement says.

We'll update as more information is released. Condolences to those who knew and loved the victim.

Update: He was identified Sunday afternoon as Keon Lewis of Chicago. No address was available for him (unverified information says that he lived in Rogers Park).

  1. This is happening more and more. I wonder what the logic is behind shooting somebody riding in a car or on the highway, vs. shooting them on the street?

  2. It's incredible that no other drivers were injured or killed.
