Pilot For 'Superior Donuts' TV Series Set In Uptown Being Filmed For CBS

How cool is this? A TV pilot based on the successful play "Superior Donuts" set in an Uptown donut shop is slated to film for CBS soon. In case you never had the chance to see "Superior Donuts" on stage, here is a brief synopsis via Deadline Hollywood:

"Based on the play by Tracy Letts, Superior Donuts follows the relationship between the owner of a donut shop, Arthur, his new young employee, Franco ([Jermaine] Fowler), and their patrons in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago. [Maz] Jobrani plays Maz — a character written for him — who is a high-energy, over-caffeinated businessman, capitalism personified and living the American dream. Maz has been buying up buildings and investing in businesses in the Uptown neighborhood, waiting for gentrification to come and make him rich, and he’s constantly after Arthur to sell him the donut shop so he can control the entire block."

*UU Note: The donut shop featured in Superior Donuts was likely based on the "Wilson Donut Shop" that stood at 4620 N. Broadway in the Wilson L station.
