Someone's Knockin' At The Door, Someone's Ringin' The Bell

A popular post on Uptown Update's Facebook page:
"Please be aware that utilities scammers are out. A reader on the 4600 block of Kenmore says two men just came to her door purporting to be from the utility company and said they needed to get in to the building to do an emergency audit.

There's no such thing as an emergency audit. Especially at 8 p.m. on a Saturday night.

She called 9-1-1 to report the incident. [The men left and] got into a waiting dark-colored unmarked van outside. Whatever they're up to, it isn't to check your utility bill. Be aware."
We can't know what these guys' intentions were, but anyone who comes to your door and wants to get into your building — especially when they give you a lie about their reason — especially when it's late at night — is bad news.

Uptown isn't Mayberry. Even Mayberry isn't Mayberry anymore. Don't be naive and let people you don't know into your building or your home.

Uptown has so many residents who are immigrants and elderly people, and they tend to be more trusting than hardened urbanites. Please look out for your neighbors and let them know about this scam.

  1. Can someone please take out their camera and start filming this? When you go to your door, have your lapel camera on or your call phone camera running. We need to know what they look like and the cars they're driving.
