Juvenile Arrested In Wilson Red Line Station Smartphone Robberies

Photos from the December 28th robbery.
Nice job by the public in identifying this kid and informing the police.  Those pictures are clear as day.  CTA definitely has its faults, but its video surveillance equipment is second to none.

A news release from the CPD dated Saturday night says:
  • "Juvenile Charged in CTA Robberies
  • Name: Male Juvenile, 17, of the 4600 block of N. Clifton
  • Charges: Two felony counts of Robbery
  • The above offender was arrested and charged after he was identified as the offender in two incidents on the CTA Red Line. The incidents occurred on December 28th, 2014 at approximately 2:15am and January 14, 2015 at 10:45pm on the 4600 block of N. Broadway.

In both cases, a female victim’s cell phone was forcibly grabbed from her hand. Video surveillance was recovered and distributed to media outlets which ultimately assisted in the identification and apprehension of the offender."
For those wondering why all the news trucks were at Wilson and Broadway Friday night, they were doing on-the-scene stories about the series of thefts.  The arrested juvenile lives just a block away, on Clifton Avenue.  Nice work.

  1. I wonder if he will be recycled back into the community to steal again. Will the justice syst give him "community" service?
He was a little dumb to not know that cameras were working.

  2. This of course calls for an IrishPirate musical interlude. I went looking for a bad cover of "I Fought the Law" and found this. It's actually ok, though her pronunciation of "law" comes out as "lawrrr". Damn Brits don't know how to speak English.

I'm relatively sure this offensive offender will be out on the street fairly soon. Hopefully his brush with the law and internet infamy will teach him a useful life lesson beyond "don't steal in front of a camera".
