4520 Beacon Status Check, Part Two

4520 N. Beacon has now topped out
When we last checked in on 4520 N Beacon back in April, the 2nd floor was just taking shape. You might remember that this was the former location of Hull House and is now in the process of being converted into 24 market-rate rental units, a mix of two and three bedrooms. Dave Gassman, the developer, was able to reuse the existing Hull House foundation for the project.

Today, the building is topped out and major construction is complete. We spotted new trees in the parkway and also in front of the building where the beloved "Beacon Gorilla" will soon be returning. Posts for new fencing are up around the perimeter of the property, as well as new trees on each side of the parking lot entrance off of Beacon. On the backside of the building, we spotted new balconies as well as lots of work being done on the sunken garden outdoor area of the building, presumably for common outdoor space for residents.

While the design isn't likely to win any awards, we think this will be a great adaptive reuse for a lovely spot in Sheridan Park. Between this development, and 1325 W. Wilson, Sheridan Park is seeing one of the biggest construction booms in recent history and we look forward to welcoming our new neighbors.

  1. Is it just me or does it look like there is no entrance or lobby?

    1. It does look that way but the main entrance is on the north side of the building.
