The Color Purple

There's been a lot of curiosity about the new purple fencing that recently went up at the former Pollo Loco lot at the southeast corner of Wilson and Sheridan.

No, it's not going to be a new Burger King.

We don't know why it's purple.

As far as we know, it's still under a lucrative (to the property owner) guaranteed lease with El Pollo Loco and will be for a few years yet.

We are told by the alderman's office that the owner is securing and cleaning up the property.  The Chicago Vacant Building Ordinance requires that all entrances to the building be secured with plywood, that the owner be responsible for litter and fly-dumping on the property, and that seasonal upkeep be done.

We're all eager to see something go in there, but as far as we've been able to find out, this isn't it.
