The Longest Day Of The Year

Lionel, the coolest cat at Montrose and Dayton, shows off his summer apparel.  And why not?  It's the summer solstice, the day with the most sunlight of the year.

Uptown is up to the task, with plenty happening to fill up those daylight hours:
  • 11am-3pm, a Sidewalk Sale presented by the senior citizens at Ruth Shriman House, 4040 N Sheridan
  • Noon-4pm, Sonic Summer Kickoff, where you can meet the "Two Guys" from the commercials
  • 2pm-4pm, the inaugural Culture Jam at Buttercup Park, 4901 N Sheridan.  Culture Jams will take place every Saturday throughout the summer
  • 3pm-4pm, Paper Machete at the Green Mill, always fun, always free.
  • 5pm-6:30pm, a family-friendly version of Two Gentlemen of Verona, at Chase Park, 4701 N Ashland.  Free, bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
  • 6:30pm -- Boston and the Doobie Brothers in concert at Montrose Harbor.
  • 7pm -- Exegesis and Leper in concert at Wilson Abbey, 935 W Wilson.   Free; in Spanish and English.

  1. I've taken sharpie to paper to try to work out a schedule for Littleton to hit all these events today. It's going to be difficult given some of the overlapping time frames and distances involved. Perhaps we can get him a one day DIVVY pass for $7 so he misses no appearances. Do DIVVY bikes have a cup holder for his required coffee?

Now most importantly his twerking on the curb cuts at the Sonic has to occur. No event at Sonic can occur without gesticulating Littleton booty. After all he is the Uptown Artist and must show his displeasure at the desecration of the curbs. Hopefully, JP Paulus won't be giving one of his famous Uptown tours as Littleton's booty bounces up and down to his version of this song.. Perhaps JP can skip that section of Wilson and just stand outside the location of the former Uptown Snack Shop. Less likely to encounter any UnChristian twerking there.

The image of Littleton reading this comment and thinking: "DAMN IrishPirate he doesn't go to as many meetings as me and I don't twerk!" brings joy to my heart on this overcast June morning. In a perfect world he'd be reading this comment at Starbucks on Wilson as his booty starts to twitch in anger and he starts to look around nervously hoping no one noticed.

Oh well enjoy what looks to be a rainy weekend folks. The forecast calls for showers, thunderstorms, humidity and occasional breakouts of twerking.
