  1. Is it strange that I just got excited that a Sonic just opened 2 blocks from me? I've never been to a Sonic

  3. Hey Jason,

I'm scared to walk that far south on Broadway in case I encounter the "LITTLETON". Is it true he was seen laying down in one of the curb cuts for Sonic while yelling "It violates all the principles of urban planning" and "Uptown is home"? Did this occur only when news cameras are on or is he doing it constantly? Or am I just making this shit up as I go along?

In any case welcome Sonic to Uptown! Or perhaps better said as Welcome to Uptown, Sonic. Once the hoopla dies down and the "LITTLETON" moves back to Starbucks I will sample your cuisine.

I'm not only thankful for the food and jobs you supply to the community, but also for the curb cuts and a tax paying business. I'm also thankful for the chance to whine your presence provides to the "Littleton" and whatever ID FGFM is using today.

    1. I missed seeing Littleton laying on the curb cut? I am truly disappointed by this. I had wondered where he had relocated to after his art gallery on Broadway closed.

I actually think I'm going to visit them after work for a breakfast burrito. Truly a fantastic idea.

  5. Terrible food; terrible for the neighborhood

    1. Why is it terrible? Did you go in there and eat something that you didn't like? Or are you just bellyaching over a dining choice YOU wouldn't make and you don't want anyone else to have the choice either? Are you starting a campaign to shut down sushi restaurants because they could serve fugu that could kill someone who eats it? Or are you just upset about a "fast food" restaurant opening? Why is it terrible for the neighborhood? Looks to me like it's an improvement over what was there...and it employs people...and it gives us another dining option...and it's bringing people here that might not otherwise spend more quality time in our neighborhood. And why aren't you complaining about the McDonald's next door? Explain yourself, please, instead of doing hit-and-run postings that simply say nothing of value.

    2. Alex is right Bear. I used to be a managing partner for Sonic, and the food is the same poisonous garbage that every fast food restaurant serves up. Bringing yet another nutritionless meal source to an area like this does provide jobs, but at what cost? The thing that concerns me the most is that the carhops will be sitting ducks with pockets full of cash when their shift is over, heading into the neighborhood to walk home. Hopefully they are being encouraged to bring a change of clothes to work with them so they can leave in a less conspicuous manner, or are arranging for rides.

    3. Hmmm. A managing partner who was struck by lightning and suddenly realized that fast food is not the foundation for a nutritious diet, yet fails to understand that most people don't necessarily eat 3 fast food meals a day, 7 days a week. "An area like this"? What do you mean by that? What you do mean by "at what cost"? You think that people in Uptown are a bunch of idiots who don't know what to eat? Or that they only have the choice of Sonic, McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, and 7-11?!? Gimme a break. As to the employees, I get the impression that most come from Uptown and neighboring areas--they aren't stupid, either, to walk home with wads of bills and change in their pockets. And the security looks to be no-nonsense and packing heat.

The only complaints I have are the minor kinks that will be worked out with experience, including one mis-informed staff member who thought that the drive-in stalls aren't meant for car-seated eating but for picking up orders like a stationary drive-thru (oops...there's a double drive-thru just 50 feet away!).

    4. Your comment makes no sense. You might want to educate yourself on dining habits in this country before you spout off a bunch of half baked opinions. Almost 50% of the American population eats fast food at least once a week, with 20% eating it at least twice a week. This statistic is even higher in areas with a lower income population, like Uptown has. The food has no nutritional value. It serves no purpose to your body except to make you fat.
As for your assertion that the carhops are smart enough to not walk home with pockets full of cash, my experience was that most of them had to relinquish half of their tips at the end of a shift to accommodate for the fact that they lacked the ability to properly count back change, so you have very high expectations indeed. Don't listen to me though. I only speak from direct experience in managing one of these restaurants. Where does your expert opinion come from Bear? Have a nice day...

  6. An outdoor gun range... As soon as some of the Vice lord gang bangers roost in one of the stalls, the opposition will take notice and its game on. Everyone here knows the area, lets be honest.

  7. Lets have a contest.... Who can be the first U.U. blogger to post pics of the 019 Tac Team, in their "purple haze" colored unmarked SUV, shaking down the gangbangers in the Sonic lot ? Keep your iPhones at the ready !

    1. Pathetic that people like you gleefully await new businesses' failure. What a sad pastime.

George's Sweets in Edgewater. The Mcdonalds on Pratt. The Mcdonalds in Lincoln Square. The Howard red line station. That's where you need to start warning people to look out for murderers. Sonic's armed security guard is a pretty good deterrent. Let's check back in a year and go over the body count, m'kay? Right now I'm going to Sonic, thanks for reminding me. Yummy in da tummy.
