Beware Of The Trench

If you use the alley behind 5000 N Sheridan to get home, or as access to Big Chicks parking lot, you need to exercise caution.  A reader took this photo and says:

"Now that the snow has melted, an abandoned People's Energy gas main replacement project has surfaced along the entire alley in the 5000 block that runs between Sheridan and Kenmore.  This is the same alley for access to Big Chicks parking.  This "rut" that looks like a rail line once went through, is approximately 8 inches deep and can seriously damage a car with a low clearance.  In the pictures, I placed a milk crate down so you can visualize the depth.

I called Alderman Osterman's office today and they explained that People's Energy should come back to repair, but have no confirmation of a completion date or repair ETA.  Just when the cold and the snow retreat, there is yet another thing to deal with!"

As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "Well it just goes to show you, it's always something."

Update:  Ald. Osterman's office emailed UU this morning to say, "Just wanted to reach out with and let you know that People's Energy will have an inspector out there today to assess the trench and to determine the best way to address it."  Updates when we hear more.  Appreciate it!

  1. People's Gas always does an extremely shitty job of patching up their work. There are examples of this all over the city. I hope the city sends them a bill for re-doing all their crap street patching post gas line repair / project...
