Got a wonky sidewalk in front of your place? Want the city to pick up part of the cost of replacing it? From Ald. Pawar:
"The 2014 Shared Cost Sidewalk Program opens to new applicants January 1, 2014 through the City's 311 system (phone or web). Owner information and the property address must be provided at the time of request. Commercial properties are also able to participate in this program.
Funding for this program runs out quickly. Kiss the one you love on New Year's Eve and make your request to the city. Last year the funds were depleted by January 8th.
For 2014 the unit cost charged to homeowners will be $4 per square foot. Seniors (65 years or better) and those with disabilities may qualify for a 50% discount. The approximate cost to a homeowner of an average mid-block property will range from $600 to $1200. This is significantly below what a private contractor would charge because of the volume of work the city does.
Online web applications are strongly encouraged to eliminate long wait times callers may experience dialing 311. To apply online beginning January 1, 2014, click here and select "Get Started Online."
