Preserving Uptown's "Little Egypt"

A reader passed along some good news from Chicago Real Estate Daily about the efforts to save the building which was home to the former Nick's Uptown:

... The [Commission on Chicago Landmarks] unanimously voted to give preliminary landmark status to the Cairo Supper Club building at 4015-17 N. Sheridan Road.  ...  “It clearly meets the criteria” of a Chicago landmark, said Suzanne Germann, director of grants and easements at Landmarks Illinois.

There's also a wonderful article in Architecture Chicago Plus about the site's history, built as an auto dealership before the discovery of Tut's tomb (for the long-defunct Hupmobile brand) and then a firebombed dinner club in the 1960s.
