Interesting that there will still be a community meeting at a restaurant with sewer backup, roaches, and rodent feces. I think that may be enough to make me not want to go to this meeting. Hopefully it will be relocated or rescheduled.

As for roaches and feces, if that's your criteria for not eating somewhere, best to dine at home. If you're ever bored, read the restaurant inspection reports on the city of Chicago website. Nearly every restaurant anywhere has some problems. No restaurant ever passes an inspection without being cited for something. If you eat out, know it will never be as clean as eating at home. (Had a boyfriend in high school who took me into the kitchen of the restaurant he worked at, a nice one on Sheridan. The staff walked on boards on the floor because they didn't want to slip in the grease coating the floors.) Think of it this way, eating out helps the economy AND builds your resistance!
CN, I can understand why you want to protect Sun Wah, but even when the owner admits that they haven't been diligent enough, something is very wrong. Either you know how to run a restaurant or you don't. This is one closing, it's 5 of 11 which is like a 47% success rate of failure. They shouldn't take the public's health and safety into their hands own hands -- these are serious offenses, and for that, I'm out.
I don't know where you get the impression that I'm "protecting" Sun Wah. I've only eaten there once (not fond of dead ducks hanging up in a display window). I'm just saying that restaurants all have issues, and Sun Wah happened to get caught by the inspectors. Don't eat there if you're grossed out. But I can guarantee you that every restaurant in Chicago has some code violation, even your favorites and my favorites. If people ever read the health inspection reports of the restaurants they eat at or read the police blotters for "safe neighborhoods," they would be shocked and never eat out or leave their homes again.
I am surprised UU that you haven't reported on Sun Wah BBQ's health inspection failures, 5 out of 11 which now leave the restaurant closed:
