A reader sends in this photo and writes:
"Not sure if anyone has shared this, but the apartment building at
Sunnyside and Hazel has just finished this beautiful mural. The building
has put in a lot of work over the last year. I don't know much about
them but I definitely appreciate the pride that are taking in the
property and the neighborhood."
UU Note: This bricolage mural was done by Architreasures and was commissioned by Voice of the People, the owner of the building. Its intent is to "bring to light Uptown’s rich history,
strengths, diversity, progress, investments and successes; with the
intention of fostering a sense of pride, safety, and empowerment in all
who pass by the corner of Sunnyside and Hazel." More about it here.
That is really nice. I'd love to see more murals like this in our neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteI hate leaving negative comments and I like urban art (as a concept, I guess after this comment), and it's not like I'm offended or anything, but this mural is really kind of awful. I live right next to it and if you really go and look at it, it looks like there is a big white hand doling out something (pills?) to everyone else. It is just poorly conceptualized. I'm sure the people who envisioned the artwork meant well, but whoever OKed and paid for it needs a serious job review.
