Jake's Pup In The Ruff Has Ruff Inspection
Jake's Pup in the Ruff, at Sheridan and Montrose, is closed, and several readers have asked why. Seems that Jake's failed a health department inspection on October 1, and was given a week to make things better. After a week, they weren't, so Jake's is closed until things meet the inspector's approval.
You can find the report here, but it's an onerous process searching for it, and we wouldn't recommend reading it unless you've got a strong constitution. Suffice to say, no restaurant escapes a visit from the inspector without a few violations being noted, even the ones that pass, and that includes some pricey joints that might surprise you.
Jake's has been around Uptown for over 50 years, so we have faith that they'll reopen soon and be a lot cleaner when they do.
UU Note: The convenience store at Magnolia and Wilson has reopened, apparently having resolved its building violations to the city's satisfaction.

Hope they can correct the problems .1 of very old places that is still around .Everything else has closed or been tore down.Ashame Uptowns crime isn't shut down as fast.
ReplyDeleteThose are some serious inspection vilations!!
ReplyDeletewould be nice if they also took the time to clean the exterior of the building as well. It is a dirty eyesore
ReplyDeleteIt still is not as bad as the Popeyes under the Wilson el stop. They usually state why it was shut down on the door. Rodent infestation, lack of hot water, cross-contamination ect...
ReplyDeleteWould be nice if the health department would simply give UU and other media outlets access to full inspection reports in such cases, but they don't. And that's by design.

My goodness. I'm glad thats a "critical violation". I've grabbed a bite to eat there a few times.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't seem that bad.
ReplyDeleteIf you can easily see roaches then that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are probably thousands hidden from view.
ReplyDeleteJake's is a great place and a neighborhood institution. I've never seen a roach there. I miss my Kim Special. I hope they reopen soon.
ReplyDeleteI Agree Cindy.
DeleteI also noticed in the area the people that hung around the bus stop and the front of the building seem to no longer be there or at least I have missed them the past few times. So my question is, did the hotel/motel above Jake's get shut down also? I happy that I haven't seen those people.
ReplyDeleteOur long local nightmare is almost over. I was riding my unicycle by and---
ReplyDeleteThere's a sign in the window stating they will reopen "Saturday".
I think I will celebrate with something unhealthy tomorrow.
Kim Special!! The Best!
