Uptown Baptist Church Organizes Vigil For Shooting Victims

There was a prayer vigil Wednesday evening at Wilson and Sheridan for the victims of Monday's shooting.  Here is the story that goes with ABC7's video, above.

DNAinfo reports that the victim who has been reported as being in extremely critical condition is Darius Oliver, and that there are no hopes for his survival, according to his friends.  Another victim had to have his arm amputated due to the severity of the wounds he sustained.

It's all so unnecessary and so senseless.  And so very sad.

  1. This is great news! I hope this means this church will start working with CAPS and the rest of the community to address crime. The drunken behavior consistently at the bus shelter in front of their church is worrisome.

I also noticed ONE is starting to become interested. Maybe they'll start working with the police and community as well.

  2. Reviewing statements given by the Alderman's office. "Police have video footage", "Police have real good photo's", "Police three people in custody" ?? WHO!! Where!!?? As we watch this tradgedy fade to dark. Cameras saturated all over Uptown but whenever there is a shooting "No-bodies being charged!!" Same rhetoric only diffrence Alderman Cappleman makes statements with NO FACTS. Just to settle the community and make it look like he is making a diffrence. Not by a long shot. If we total the number of victims shot in Uptown this year it will be equivalent to years prior. I believe it is time to mke a diffrence and vote for an Alderman who implement changes that will positively effect our community and not the route for the Gay Parade. #REALTALK

  3. Mmmmm. Little homophobia there, eh? Interesting. Along with some implied "insider knowledge" that the police and the alderman are lying. Proof for that accusation?

"It can't be good because I want everything to be bad!" When will "Real Talk" announce he or she is running for alderman on the Dirty Harry ticket?

Sorry, Real Talk, when you brought up the "route for the Gay Pride Parade," you lost me. In this neighborhood, homophobia, whether you think it's veiled or not, ain't gonna fly.

Using this tragedy as an excuse to discredit an alderman you don't like is a cheap shot, too.

  4. Amen GG.. btw Real Talk, many of us in Uptown, those that are educated and not filled with hate in our heart, believe that having the Gay Pride Parade start here IS a positive affect on our community. I suggest you move to Russia....

  5. Having the pride parade come through Uptown was a change that has positively affected our community! Look at all the people it brings to Uptown, many of whom would not venture here otherwise. It's a great way to show them our neighborhood and all it has to offer. Plus, it positions Uptown as a neighborhood that is at the forefront of diversity, which is also a positive thing. Of course, it doesn't solve the crime problem, which is very serious, but it is very disappointing for someone to suggest that it is not a positive thing.

  6. @Uptown Superhero @gg So as I was saying the only thing Alderman Cappleman has changed since being elected is the route of the Gay Parade. That made me a homophobe? Or hatred. Here's a little insider knowledge my mothers Gay. IDIOT. So much for your assumption.
Also about the Alderman, I was not implying anything. I believe I stated clearly "Where's the proof?" Police can only question a person for so long. I believe 48-72 hours. Has anyone been charged? Wheres the SO-Called pictures? The video footage? Where is it? Who has been Charged? Thats all I am asking. See you at the Gay parade next year. My mother gets there in the park at 6:00am in the morning. Pitches her tent and celebrate. Right off Montrose.

  7. RealTalk. Last I checked, the Alderman does not have the power to arrest someone for murder. Perhaps you have some insight into a new law that has been passed?...your silly comments and droning on and on and on and on is perfect for my insomnia.... thank you... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
