Broadway & Lawrence Getting Transformed . . . .

You heard it here first, nearly a month agoTransformers 4 will be doing some filming at the Uptown Theater.

All the signs are there.  Open doors leading into the theater, rows of equipment trucks on Lawrence, security guards, and men wearing black coming out of the theater to smoke.  Moodily.

Ald. Cappleman's latest newsletter gives more details:

"Paramount Pictures/Transformers 4 will be filming in the 46th Ward.
  • WHEN: Wednesday, August 28 - Thursday, August 29
  • WHERE: The Uptown Theater/Green Mill -  4802-4816 N Broadway
  • ROAD CLOSURES:  Broadway from Lawrence to Gunnison between 9:30 am - 3:30 pm. A reroute plan will be provided in the coming days. The production is also working with the CTA surrounding the affected bus routes. Chicago Police and Fire personnel will be on site to manage public safety perimeters and traffic control. Prior to the filming date, there will be some minor parking and traffic restrictions in the area. Notifications will be distributed by the Production to local businesses and neighbors affected by the closures."

  1. I certainly hope some kind of notification goes out. I live behind the Uptown on Magnolia and they are already randomly closing off the street now and then to load equipment and it's quite annoying. Not looking forward to whatever mess comes from the actual filming...

  2. Are they filming IN the theatre, or around it? I didn't think that the theatre was up to code enough to allow people inside, or is this one of those things where it's not safe enough for the public, but under proper supervision, it can be used privately? Maybe we can hope that the money Michaelson is getting for renting this out will be able to go towards repairs in the lobby and facade, and get at least that part open.

  3. I lived behind the uptown for about 20 years and worked there also, glad to see the old movie house coming to life again.
