Stop, Thief!

Keep an eye out for this man, who was caught in the act of removing a bike belonging to a resident from the back balcony.

A reader reports he has been seen walking down Uptown alleys looking into back yards.  He jumped the back fence and started to take the bike when an alert neighbor snapped this photo and ran him off before the police could arrive.  If you see him, please be alert and call 911 if you see him entering private property.

  1. I would say wearing gloves in the summer time might say he was up to no good.

  2. I have seen this man hanging out with others across the street from the UHaul on Broadway. He is one of the guys who yells MOVERS! trying to get hired to help people move.

  3. That's a great shot - he should be easy to find, should the CPD be interested in grabbing him (which is not guaranteed, sad to say, since it's not tecnically a B&E).

  4. Someone on the UU Facebook page reports seeing him wearing the same clothes riding a bike down an alley and carrying two more bikes. Other readers report thefts of multiple bikes from their buildings during the past week. If you see this guy checking out your or a neighbor's place or with multiple bikes, please call 911 and report suspicious behavior.

  6. It was I who saw the guy with the two bikes in the alley between Kenmore and Winthrop. I reported it to 311 that same night (Friday PM/Saturday AM). Since seeing the photo of the same guy on UU, I've been speaking with the police and will chat with our local CAPs team tomorrow (offline, as my work schedule won't allow me to be at the actual meeting).

  7. Kits----please, please call 911 when you see crime in progress, not 311.

  8. Thanks, Nicholas. While I wasn't sure if a crime was in progress the night I saw the biker (i.e., our friendly neighborhood felon), I did ask 311 to refer me to 911. They chose to take the information themselves. That said, I've since been chatting with CAPS and sharing information, as well as tips shared on this site and its FB page. They're definitely treating it as a priority and have asked that anyone with sightings or other tips call them at 911 - or Officer Clark on the CAPs team.

  9. KAS---thanks for the follow up. Good work and thanks for being a good neighbor. It was just a knee-jerk reaction when I saw the note about 311. Keep up the good work!
