Positive Loitering Tonight, 7pm - 8pm

from the Uptown Chicago Commission:

Positive Loitering has resumed on Friday evenings in the 19th District.  Please join your neighbors for an hour this evening from 7-8 pm, at the southwest corner of Lawrence and Sheridan. Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, bring your dog!  The event is being sponsored by the Uptown Chicago Commission and all are welcome to attend. As always, the Police are aware of our efforts and encourage our efforts to take back our streets for law-abiding citizens.

  1. Excellent. Glad to see positive loitering taking off again, but I hope that since UCC supposedly serves all of Uptown, that it not limit its sponsoring to ONLY that area--or perhaps it should pass the torch to the local neighborhood association like others have had to do. Or maybe UCC can work with the neighborhood associations to co-sponsor positive loitering events and rotate the events to hotspot locations as they pop up over the summer.

  2. Bear, are you willing to work with your block club to enlist a core group of people who will come out each week at a specific time, no matter what? And the cops and CAPS, to ensure that an officer is present, or at least aware of what's going on?

If so, I'm sure UCC would love for Uptown to have multiple PL events. Have you contacted them? Or CAPS? Wishing something will happen is great, and so is posting on a blog, but if you want something to happen, you've got to get committed neighbors who will show up, schedule a night, talk to UCC and CAPS. Good luck!
