Since last October, the Bag Plaza Corp. building at 4533 N Clark has been hidden behind scaffolding while it got a facelift and became more structurally sound. This past week, the scaffolding came down, revealing a sleeker, more modern building. We'll miss some of the vintage decorations, but that glass brick.... never!
Now it looks like another modern, faceless building like all the rest of them built in the last 20 years.
ReplyDeleteYeah this is a pretty bad facade job
ReplyDeleteIt's ok for what it is. Probably less expensive than a historic restoration.
ReplyDeleteIt looks better than before. I'm good with any renovation done in Uptown because it makes the neighborhood more appealing.
ReplyDeleteActually, glass brick has acquired a new "hip" image in recent years and is being used in a lot of modern houses and condos, especially in bathroom and basement windows.
