Gonna Be A Busy Independence Day Weekend

On July 5, 6, and 7th, Uptown will be living up to its reputation as the city's music district.
  • The Windy City Ribfest returns for its fourth consecutive year on the 4700 block of Broadway.  Sponsored by Business Partners, there will be food, beer, non-stop live music, kids' entertainment, vendors and of course, some of the top ribbers in the country will compete.  It begins Friday evening at 5pm, and ends at 9pm on Sunday.  More details are here, and we can't wait to hear the band line-up.(You may see other dates for the Ribfest on other sites, but these are the correct ones.  We checked.)  Suggested donation is $6/day.
  • If that's not your thing, go about a mile southeast for the Wavefront Music Festival at Montrose Beach, returning to Uptown for the second consecutive year.  According to the (now-expired) Groupon offer, "Rusko, Crookers, and Danny Tenaglia punctuate a roster of electronic-music performers and DJs at this three-day water-adjacent festival."  Gates open at noon on Friday, and it all winds down at 11pm on Sunday.  The official website is pretty sparse right now, but you can check the Groupon page or Facebook for more information.  A three-day pass will run you $189.99, full price.

  1. That should make for some fun traffic jams and a strained police force. A master calendar of events should be used moving forward for better coordination.. just saying..

  2. If these two events help spark some vibrancy into the ward, I can walk or take the train for a few days.

  3. Superhero, I see your point, but I also think that both events could potentially benefit from the draw the other creates.

  4. Last year during Wavefront festival a group of us walked down to the beach and swam at night when Boyz Noize was playing. They had fireworks going off, you can hear the music, and the water was perfect. There were hundreds of people taking advantage of the free view. Top night of the summer for me.
