Today, Mayor Emanuel announced that Uptown will receive funding as an “Opportunity Planning Area” to continue Alderman Cappleman’s plan to make Uptown a destination for entertainment, education, and culture.
Alderman Cappleman stated, “For the past two years, I have been working tirelessly with Mayor Emanuel and various City Departments to forge a plan to create a clear identity for Uptown that will increase economic development and public safety. The renovation of the Wilson Red Line Station was step one, this is step two.”
Alderman Cappleman noted that, “Investment in this area will enhance the improvements at the new Wilson Station and our plans for the Entertainment District. Improving the streetscape, adding neighborhood identifiers, and maximizing use of public transportation will create a distinctive environment. When people come to this area, they will immediately know they are in Uptown.”
Scope:
- Standard streetscape improvements on Broadway between Leland and Gunnison, and on Lawrence between Broadway and Winthrop.
- New pedestrian plaza at intersection of Broadway/Racine.
- Flexible street improvements on Clifton St. between Lawrence and Broadway. [UU Note: This is the street that runs between Bridgeview Bank and the long parking lot east of it.]
- Both sides of Broadway, new sidewalks, ADA ramps, bump-outs where possible, lighting community identifiers, and landscaping.
- Focus on Broadway streetscape between Wilson and Leland.
Take that all you "Target is never coming" people! Hooray!
ReplyDeleteIf the City can just repave Sheridan from Irving through Winchester, that would be a HUGE Uptown improvement...
ReplyDeleteAs soon as we criminalize being poor as a sign of dangerous mental illness, we'll be able to get these ruffians out of here even with the cry baby social service people shouting "only criminalize offenders!"
ReplyDeleteWell, I find you ALL offensive.
Once the age and social demographics change, that will be the biggest help. Uptown needs to attract a younger crowd to live and possibly work here…
ReplyDeleteSad! All I am reading into this is how do we get rid of the elderly, disabled and poor. There is 3,000,000,000 dollars found for this but funding is cut for those who cannot help themselves.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible news. Hope and change in Uptown!
ReplyDeleteFacts are facts Cowboy Up, take the emotions out of it please.

ReplyDeleteThe Chicago Reader was last relevant in 1987... but thanks ChiTownPhilly, for your consistant ability to cherry pick articles that you agree with and ignore the vast amount of facts in front of you... Don't worry, real skateboarding weather is just a few weeks away, bro!

I appreciate your comment. It exposes, full force, the disdain and contempt harbored against the poorest among us.
and that's the undisputed truth.
Toucan,
ReplyDeleteyou should stick to marketing Froot Loops cereal.
It's likely that PC(Prometheus Complexus) only posted that comment in order to get a rise out of someone.
Who would do such a thing? A trickster would. A trickster pretending to be something
he is not and trying to discredit the folks who oppose his point of view.
Look up the background of the ancient Greek character Prometheus. Notice the use of the word "trickster"?
While I appreciate the use of ancient Greek mythology I would suggest that in the future PC try to be a bit more subtle in his trickery.
When it's so over the top, and obvious to anyone with more than a bird sized brain, it's counterproductive to the true cause being espoused.
So endeth the lesson.........
As for undisputed truth there is only one in this world.
That truth can be found here if you choose to see it.
