Coming soon to Uptown will be the third location for north suburban-based Dengeos Restaurant. Dengeos originally opened in 1972 and offers a variety of high quality Greek and American specialties like gyros, ribs, Greek and BBQ chicken, burgers, housemade baked goods, and plentiful salads.
Dengeos will taking over the space occupied by longtime Uptown restaurant The Best Steakhouse at the southwest corner of Wilson and Broadway. The location will be completely remodeled and a target date for Dengeos opening is yet to be determined. To get a sense of Dengeos' offerings, visit www.dengeos.com.

Greek Is The Word
Earlier this month, a reader noticed brown butcher paper up in the window of The Best Steak House at Wilson and Broadway and wondered what might be going in. Turns out the answer is can be found at the Uptown United website:
We look forward to Denegeos' opening.

This is great news. I have eaten many times at the Skokie location. Great food. Welcome to Uptown
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings on this. Yes, it's great that Dengeo's is coming to the city. But that corner? Ugh. I'm happy that Uptown is getting some love but until the area improves more I think Dengeo's should look elsewhere. I know, the new Wilson station will be there and it's going to improve..etc..etc. Until that happens though, no soup for you!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome...welcome to the 'hood Dengeos!
ReplyDeletePersonally I think that Dengeos is forward looking. It's not like you can pick and choose a location when you want. This one came available at this time jump on it. Truman is there. There is ample foot traffic because of the El and Broadway bus and the Target store. Get in while the getting is good. Establish yourself. The new El will only make it better down the road.
ReplyDeleteF-Yeah, F-Yeah, F-Yeah. Love Dengeos, been to both Suburban locatoins and I'm happy to see I won't have to travel as far for a great gyro or giant salad. Welcome to the neighborhood D's. And I sincerely hope you don't have to spend too much time sweeping away bullet casings.
ReplyDeleteExcited to see that businesses from the burbs are recognizing that there is place in Uptown to grow their brand.
ReplyDeleteI know they sold pitchers of beer to individuals. Which is against Illinois law.
ReplyDeleteThe glass is half full. STOP WHINNING! Anyway, I'm glad to see a nice place to eat in my neighborhood. I hope they have Greek pasta.. :)
ReplyDeleteSome people are just never satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned this post to another restaurant owner who is friends with the owners of Dengeos and he says that when he asked them about this they said that this was not true. This original post was on Uptown Uniteds website. I wonder where they got their information.
ReplyDeleteIt was reported on Uptown United's website. That would be pretty irresponsible for Uptown United to spread rumors like that....Seeing as it is a community development organization.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those "rumors" I really want to be true.
I LOVE Dengeos in Skokie.
Right now, there is absolutely nothing drawing me to Wilson and Broadway other than the fact that Lawrence Station is closed.
If slightly more upscale businesses invest in our community, including, gasp, fast food, I will spend my money in Uptown. By upscale, I mainly mean businesses that offer a quality product and a clean, safe, and inviting atmosphere.
