Long-Time Uptown Volunteer To Be Honored On Saturday

On Saturday, September 29th, the Margate Park Playlot will be renamed to honor long-time Uptown resident and tireless volunteer Bill Hersh.  The ceremony will begin at 10:30am and should last about an hour.  The playlot is located just east of the Margate Park Fieldhouse, at 4921 N Marine.  Parking is available in a public lot behind the fieldhouse and also along Marine Drive.

Mr. Hersh served on the board of the Margate Park Advisory Council for 25 years.  In addition, he volunteered his time with Uptown Chicago Commission, Scrap Mettle Soul, Junior Achievement and the Historic Preservation Committee of Agudas Achim North Shore Congregation, among many other organizations.  You can read more about Bill's life and legacy here and here.

Right up until the time of his death, in early 2011, he was still giving his time and efforts to help our community.  Uptown was lucky to have him and he left it a much better place than it was when he moved here in 1973.  We are delighted to know that the playlot will be a living and lasting memorial to Bill's generous spirit.
