Puttin' On The Ritz

A reader writes in:
"Attached are some pictures of the "Flats Chicago" opening on Thursday in the old Art Deco Building on Sunnyside and Broadway. It was pretty crowded (maybe a couple hundred or more) and had a DJ, flutist, top-shelf drinks, fabulous hors d'oeuvres, and beautiful people, not to mention the velvet rope on the outside. It reminded me of the chic gallery openings in Brooklyn or Hell’s Kitchen – artistic, edgy and classy. The party had a lot of brokers, investors, architects, developers, agents, etc. The Alderman spoke briefly and the general mission everyone seemed to convey was restoring these old, decrepit buildings back into the grand architectural pieces they once were, which in turn brings value back to the neighborhood."

  4. Nice! I was there. It was fun, inspiring and yes, packed. I heard the "G" word used several times: Gentrification.

  5. @Andrew Smith.
Yes Gentrification is occuring on the far north side, including uptown/edgewater and rogers park.
    Especially by the Lake.

This is obvious evidence of that.

  6. Thank God. When I bought in 2001, I thought we would be more like Lakeview by now. At the rate things are moving, we will be very soon. :) It's almost surreal that we had to argue and debate about gentrification. It was a false controversy if there ever was one!
