Painting Uptown Red : Pop-Up Art

A reader writes in about a fun event scheduled for Fat Cat on August 9th from Bottle & Bottega:

"Bottle & Bottega puts on some really great painting parties at their location at 2900 N. Lincoln, so I was really excited to receive this email about an event they are hosting at Fat Cat.  The atmosphere is always very relaxed and low-pressure, and the instructors are really great and will help you turn your painting into a piece of wall-worthy art.  I had never painted before and I always get compliments on my painting from guests."

Here are the details:

  1. Interesting Pop-up idear. Its new to me guess I don't get out enough.
If it works down there it should work here alrighty.

Another "art in a bar/tavern/pub" type event I'm more familiar with is a "Drink and Draw".
It is basically a figure drawing session with model in a drinking establishment instead of a studio.

Dr. Sketchy is a well-known one but never in Uptown yet.

The way it goes is participants show up with own drawing/painting supplies (I've done wtrclr...), pay $5-10 model fee and order a beer, whiskey, Martini or what have you.

The model poses 25 minutes on and 5 mins. off 6 times, 3 hours total.

They begin with short gestural poses from 1 min gesture up to a full25 min for the last two poses.

The model typically gets $20 an hour, the balnce to the organizer etc.....

The Brimstone Drawing Club was my favorite before it fizzled out suddenly. It was hosted by a burlesque troupe of dancers in their storefront theatre...$10 and BYOBooze.

Naturally as theatrical dancers always had a colorful theme, it was very popular monthly with artists for a bit.

Good Luck Fat Cat with your art gig.
