One of several signs posted on the corner of Hazel and Windsor. Apparently they brought out the best in at last one person: the bag outside the garbage can, rather than being rogue trash, is canned food and pantry staples, making this the city's smallest food bank. Hope someone deserving found it and got a few good meals out of the anonymous giver's generosity.
I have sent worse photos of thecans on Sunnyside & Hazel to the Cappleman's office several times. I get the reply that we need these cans for the dog walkers ... which is funny because judging from the amount of dog doo-doo all over the area sidewalks & grass I don't think any Uptowner is picking up their dog's mess! Seriously though, these cans are a nightmare. When it is even a little windy the trash gets blown everywhere. It's disgusting. It's clear that many residents are using these cans rather than the bins in their alley. Personally I would love these trash cans to be removed.
ReplyDeleteNo one has to go hungry in this city. The LINK card can last a month if one shops Aldi's & sales. It's when one sells their LINK or buys expensive items at 7-11 that a person must turn to pantries/church meals.
ReplyDeleteI love that photo and that sign. Its hilarious.
ReplyDelete@SuzyQ this is sometimes a way for people to be passive aggressive and pile up their trash in one huge pile which goes all over the place. What?, What? I didnt do anything!!! I just threw my trash into an already overflowing trash can, thats totally normal city behavior!!! :)
@americanlt: I don't know whether to say "WHAT?!?" or to "thank" you for sharing your all-knowing cookie-cutter experience with LINK cards and how those who do not qualify for LINK cards can avoid going hungry and avoid pantries/church meals simply by not selling the LINK card they don't possess or not using their imaginary LINK card to buy expensive cheese curls at 7-11.
ReplyDeleteIt amazing that you share so many "useful" and irrelevent observations...but nothing this time about the evils of 7-11's selling alcohol or whether they are "good businesses" for the community?
Or LINK won't last when they buy booze-beer and cigarettes like they do at Lakeiew Foods on Sheridan with it
ReplyDeleteWhere does the funding for LINK come from? I was shocked when a women at the Jewel checkout in front of me bought a Snickers with her LINK card and then got $100 cash back with the purchase.
ReplyDeleteMolbop, yes and the merchant only pay 40-50cents on the dollar. Their part of the problem. Many Uptown businesses (which I won't point out) do this.
ReplyDeleteA lot of comments here are off topic. Is anyone else disgusted by the obvious mis-use of these cans and the litter that is created? I am sick and tired of some very lazy people making my street filthy. If you are too, cotact the alderman's office and send photos. If these cans really are in place for dog walkers, why not have the lids with a small opening?
ReplyDeleteI thought the point of the picture was someone left some food for someone else. That seems like a nice action. Comments seem rather off topic. I've seen this a few times on Sheridan and Ainslie by the Red Eye box and wondered about it. The over flowing corner trash cans are a problem. Where does that trash all come from? I'd think it would just be people dropping things as they walk by...but seems it's a place for some people to bring all their garbage
ReplyDeleteI always take a scooper when I walk my dog & notice many others do the same. Dog walkers aren't the issue. Lot of 25cent bags of chips litter our streets. Look at Magnolia near Wilson. Litter is an important issue. There is very little garbage on the street in the GoldCoast neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteThe Gold Coast properties hire smartly uniformed maintenance guys to sweep the curbs and sidewalks.
DeleteMaybe that is their secret....that and the reason we call it the GOLD Coast in the 1st place.......?
Did anyone bother to read the post, or did they just look at the picture and post?
ReplyDeleteLooking at that photo very quickly doesnt immediately make me think,
ReplyDelete"hey someone dropped off canned goods and FOOD for someone at the GARBAGE CAN"
It immediately made me think about the state of our overflowing garbage cans in our fair city. Is it normal to put donated canned goods that someone hopes someone else with EAT by GARBAGE? I hope not.
If you were hungry enough you would be eating out of that can itself jeffo.
DeleteBe thankful...count your blessings, remember love don't mean nothing till you give it away.
