"As we wind down National Volunteer Week, we wanted to reach out to Uptown Update and share thanks from Alternatives, Inc. We appreciate the many neighbors and friends in Uptown that have supported our programs and services by volunteering their time. Since we began our 2011-2012 program year in July, our amazing volunteers have already invested more than 5,000 hours of their time at Alternatives, Inc.
That’s not even including the incredible service provided by the eight full-time AmeriCorps members that provide crucial support for young people in our programs every day. From providing photography instruction that led to our Uptown Photo Show, to offering guidance as young women conduct research on community issues, and much more, our volunteers are essential to the positive work we do with the community’s young people.
