"On the strip of Montrose just East of Ashland Chilapan has opened in the old Ranalli's location. It's a sister restaurant to the very popular Logan Square location. Is BYOB (Rayan's is next door) and serves upscale, but mid-priced, Mexican and Latin food, a la Mixteco.
I've been three times and while there were some minor consistency glitches typical of a new place, the quality and flavors are excellent. Looks like they might also have a patio once the weather turns around for good. I've noticed it is pretty empty most nights and don't want to lose another good addition to the neighborhood."
You mean 1522 W. Montrose, not N. Ashland, right?

ReplyDeleteWhile I love seeing new businesses come into the hood you would think they would spend a little more thought and effort on the store front. Sounds petty but the sign looks like styrofoam sprayed with glitter; something my 6th grader would do for a school project. Most people wouldn't even bother stopping in based on this. I
ReplyDeleteWe went there for dinner recently with some friends and were very happy with our entrees. I am vegetarian and the enchiladas with the different mole sauces were excellent. The server was friendly and efficient. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteI was so excited when they opened. But.... I think the food is way overpriced. I recall the food was like $16+ an entree. Might be good, but I think the price point is going to hurt business.
ReplyDeleteI went here 2 weeks ago and LOVED it! The price point is the same as Mixteco, and that place is always busy, so I hope Chilapan is as well.
