Malicious Mischief On Leland

Several readers have noticed that the 900 block of Leland (east of Sheridan, west of the park behind Uplift) has been experiencing a rash of flat tires.
"Last week I went out to my car in the morning and one of my tires was flat. Today, while I was parking in front of my apartment on the 900 block of W. Leland, I noticed that probably two-thirds of the cars had at least one flat tire, and cars that I noticed with a flat tire on earlier in the week now have two flats. I'm not sure when it's happening, but I'm fairly certain someone is walking down the street either letting the air out, or slashing tires."
If this is happening or has happened to you, call the cops!  They can't arrest anyone if they don't hear about it.  In the meantime, good thing Just Tires is an Uptown business.

  2. I believe I saw the kids doing this. I live on the corner of Leland and Sheridan and I noticed 11 African American youth on the 900 block of Leland. They would huddle near a car parked on the street. They massed around each other making it hard to see some of them. They would then move to another car after a minute. I knew they were damaging the cars in some way, but couldn't see it and didn't want to jump to conclusions. From now on I'm going to jump to conclusions. I wish I dialed 911. They lingered for 10 minutes or so and might have likely been caught. Sorry to the people who received damage. I'll be more vigilant from now on.

  3. Interesting this was reported with such frequency. The other evening while walking home on Leland west of Sheridan (one block west of where the blog post points out), I happened to notice a silver car with an odd flat tire. It stuck out as odd as I think the car is parked somewhat regularly in that area, there was no glass around, it was parked in and a few inches from the curb. Definitely looked as if it had been deflated or punctured.

  5. Just Tires is a ripoff anyway. They charge about $50 to patch a tire, when any other garage charges about $10.

  6. I live at Montrose and Racine. Just shelled out $170 to have my right front tire replaced for the second time in under a month. Nails in the sidewall.
