A great way to end the holiday weekend!  Relax with a cocktail, rest your weary shopped-out feet, and listen to the sounds of "Uptown: Chicago Profiles" by a local ensemble at a legendary hangout.

  1. Gee, I thought by now you'd have posted a shout-out to the memory of Maggie Daley, who made arts education and accessibility her pet project as Chicago's First Lady.

    Perhaps a moment of silence at this event?

  2. Gayle, if we were "Bridgeport Update" or if Maggie Daley had visited Uptown, we would have run something. But our concentration is on Uptown, not "all things Chicago."

  3. Gee, Gayle, since Maggie Daley's pet charity coincidentally received millions in TIF money etc perhaps we should have a moment of silence for the taxpayers.

    Perhaps another moment of silence for the vendors who didn't get contracts at O'Hare Airport because her friends received contracts. Pure coincidence, I'm sure.

    Then the hundreds of thousands of dollars or more that her son Patrick got from city related contracts. Who knew?

    The idea of deifying people after they die annoys me.

    She did much good, but she also did much bad. Those fact finding trips she and "Da Mare" took around the world at various civic or business groups expense comes to mind.

    Maggie Daley is not a secular saint. I suspect the good she did outweighs the bad, but it's one big package and it needs to be examined honestly.

    As in all things both "The Blues Brothers" and Billy Shakespeare come to mind.

    Reverend Cleophus James: DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT?
    Jake: THE BAND!
    Reverend Cleophus James: DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT?
    Elwood: What light?
    Reverend Cleophus James: HAVE YOU SEEEEN THE LIGHT?
    Jake: YES! YES! JESUS H. TAP-DANCING CHRIST... I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!
    Reverend Cleophus James: Praise God!
    Elwood: And God bless the United States of America!

    Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
    I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
    The evil that men do lives after them;
    The good is oft interred with their bones

    I'm not really looking to hijack this thread on this subject. Let's let Maggie Daley rest and hope that if there is an afterlife she's in the good place and not the Texas like place.
