Amongst all the speculation about what happens to Uptown's policing when the 19th District merges with the 23rd District (and we have to say that the proposal that Beats 2311, 2312 and 2313 be combined into a single beat is very disturbing), this popped up in our mailbox this evening:
"Please remember that the Ravenswood Community Council is hosting a Policing and Public Safety Community Meeting tomorrow night at Sulzer Regional Library Auditorium at 4455 N. Lincoln from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Please join us in a discussion regarding the closing of the 19th Police District. We hope to gather community opinions regarding this possible change and how they think it will impact our neighborhood.

If you have questions and concerns about Uptown's policing, go ask the Police Superintendent this evening.
I'm telling you right now, don't trust these people. This is all about sending coppers out south and west not about saving money. At first they will transfer all of 019 into 023. But I guarantee you a year from now you will have less Police Officers covering the same area than you do now. Think about it. No one is being laid off or fired. The building that houses 019is remaining open. The building that houses Areas 4 and 5 will remain open. The funds used to maintain these buildings all come from the General Fund, not the Police Department budget. So tell me where the savings are. This is all a backdoor way of redistricting. They want YOUR coppers out south and west. Thats their way of saying thank you for taking an interest in your community, your Police Department and your hard work making things better in your neighborhood. Don't fall for this. I'm warning you. Believe me, if I lived in your neck of the woods I'd be fighting this with all I've got.
