Looking for fresh bread? Gourmet cheeses? It appears a new business coming to the corner of Wilson and Malden may be just the place for you. Based on a sign in the window of Don Nowotny's former campaign office at 1303 West Wilson, Baker & Nosh is opening a bakery and store later this year. Their website lacks information, but from the sounds of their Facebook page, fresh breads and desserts will be sold, and cafe seating may be available.From the sound of this story from our friends at EdgeVille Buzz, it sounds like Chef Bill Millholland decided to open up a bakery in Uptown instead of Edgewater. It sounds like Edgewater's loss is Uptown's gain!
Here is some additional information from the Buzz story from August:
“My idea is to open an artisan bread shop that would serve a variety of hand made breads, breakfast items, lunch sandwiches and flat bread pizzas, cheese sold by the pound, and eventually offer a modest selection of wines to be purchased by the bottle or glass and enjoyed with a selection of appetizers. The store would also offer bread baking classes to the public as well as host wine / cheese pairing parties.” It will also act as a coffee shop and residents can grab a cup of coffee or a breakfast pastry on their way to work.

ReplyDeleteOMG! This is SO exciting! I am allergic to wheat and dairy, but I don't even care! Two thumbs up to what appears to be a legit, classy establishment coming to our precious Uptown!
ReplyDeleteI hope its doesn't open too early. I like to walk my dog Poochy down there in the early AM & like the street empty. Usually, the hoodlums are not loitering about until mid-day. I don't think Uptown residents need more liquor access.

Are there plans to use the yard as a outdoor seating area? Perhaps next year, we all know this weather won't last long.
American, like Bill said, they will not be selling wine at this location. Plus, I don't really see hoodlums buying wine from a place that sells gourmet cheese when they can buy Icehouse or Four Loko for much cheaper.
