Guess Who Is Celebrating Their 50th Birthday In Uptown?
According to Stella Foster of the Sun-Times, President Obama will be celebrating his 50th birthday at Uptown's own Aragon Ballroom on August 3. Read more here.
$36,000 per couple to attend? Nice fundraiser. I hope that publicity crazed couple from DC doesn't manage to sneak in.
Not that I'd be invited anyway, but that's a bit out of my price range.
Now if the President wants to come over to my place afterwards for brats and Guinness that I could swing. I could even spring for some steaks; although, my understanding is that the White House staff cooks virtually all of the President's meals. Safer that way.
Anyway at least for a few days the folks around the Aragon can expect a large police/Secret Service presence.
Thanks for the heads-up. We know now to avoid the area due to sidewalk and street closures, heavy traffic (for the Prez and VIP motorcades), etc. Will they also shut down the Red Line L and the Lawrence station for this?
Well, now we know why they were fixing the Aragon sign a few weeks ago. I'm glad Uptown will be getting extra attention and foot traffic, though I hope it doesn't screw up my commute.
If this turns out to be true, this is very exciting. Yes, it will be very inconvenient to have a sitting president visit and hold a party in our community, but it will also be awesome. Hopefully the event will draw attention to the potential of our community and add yet another positive page to our rich history.
As mom would say "Company's coming." Suggest we start tidying up.
um awesome!
