Lots of young men loiter outside this motel at all hours. I blame the alcohol store across the street for this. What ever happened to Chicago's vagrancy laws which required everyone to have a minimum of 2 dollars to be on the street?
What a dump! That's where they're spending money?? For a laugh, go on tripadvisor and read the reviews. They actually lure unsuspecting Cubs fans in from out of town. Yikes! I'd sleep in the car first.
What a wonderful idea...that way, you can make the poor even poorer by fining them for not having money. Instead of $0.00 in their bank account, now they'll have -$20.00.
I don't think the people causing most of the problems are the ones with no money in their pockets at all.
The coffee-less Internet cafe on the main floor is a great asset to the community. I've relied on them many time "in a pinch" to send out e-mails or print info from web sites. (And they do keep tabs on kids regarding "inappropriate" use.)
@ Community -- I do not believe this alderman ever said he'd shut it down. But he did indicate he'd hold it accountable. You should e-mail him your concerns.
Community, if it is zoned and following the law, you cannot just shut down a business because you do not like it... What you can do is email the Alderman and ask him to make sure the building is up to passing all the codes, properly licensed, following all lawas, etc etc... if it becomes to expensive to leave as is.. then they sell and it gets upscaled.. but an Alderman cannot just arbitrarily go up to a building and close it.. this is not communist China now...
One time, when the just the right neon light letters were burnt out/broken, the sign read, "HOT Chat"...priceless!
ReplyDeleteIts a shame-back in the 60s and 70s it was a nice hotel.Management let it run down.

Who has that kind of cash, let alone keeps that much on them?

sure lipstick on a pig makes sense sometimes, but these big old hotel buildings can be made nice.
ReplyDeleteand it is a nice sign.
hopefully this is a sign of future repairs and a return to its former status as a nice place

ReplyDeleteThis place should be torn down or closed for business. Thought that was the new alderman's plan???
