Some really strong storms came through the Chicago area on Tuesday evening. Apparently, the company that installed the
court-mandated scaffolding on the perimeter of the Lawrence House failed to secure the structure. The strong winds blew the scaffolding, along with brick and mortar debris, onto both Lawrence and Kenmore. At least one vehicle was damaged from the falling plywood.
Be careful when walking or driving around the Lawrence House as the unsecured scaffolding is a hazard to the neighborhood.
Some portions of the boarding on the Marysville Academy blew off during the storm too, made a bunch of noise as it fell on cars on Montrose...
ReplyDeleteI watched this happen! I was leaving Dib. Pretty crazy. Walked home 3 blocks and was more soaked than I've ever been from a storm.
ReplyDeleteThis has happened before. My car was damaged a few months ago from scaffolding. Unfortunately, my insurance company never was able to collect money from the company.
ReplyDeleteCall the City Dept of Buildings. Citation, citation, citation.
ReplyDeleteAsk Cappleman to get them into housing court on a fast track.
Lawrence House is already in Housing Court. At the last hearing, the owners' attorneys objected to Ald. Cappleman standing in front of the judge's bench.
ReplyDeleteI am still confused about this objecting to Cappleman. What was the basis of his objection?
ReplyDeleteThe higher power wants that dump GONE!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocker that the slumlords who own that place would hire some second rate company to erect the scaffolding.
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious. Does anyone know why 4 police officers were at 4826 N. Winthrop at 5:30 this morning?
ReplyDeleteA note to the alderman's office has been sent. I'm hopeful no one was injured by the scaffolding.
ReplyDeleteI just laughed. From the angle the first photo was taken the sign for the store clearly reads "USE DRUGS".
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised. The wind also blew trash all over Sheridan from the unattended recycling/dump at 4711 Sheridan.
ReplyDeletemp60613 - Oh yeah, the IRONY of it all! Wonder if this pic has gone "viral" yet?
ReplyDeleteThe next court date for Lawrence House is on June 30th, if you guys want to attend you can contact someone at O.N.E. or Ezra Multiservice Center. Showing your support will help with the case against the owners.
ReplyDeleteA tree fell down and blocked the road on Marine Drive. Can you believe it? Mother Nature didn't secure her trees again. The nerve!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously though... those were some pretty potent storms, and there were two confirmed tornado reports in Downers Grove and Mt. Prospect.
Just be thankful the damage wasn't any more severe or widespread. You can only do so much to secure objects or structures during severe weather...
