On Sunday, June 5th, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will be walking through Uptown. Bring your signs, your cowbells, and your enthusiasm, and let these walkers know their efforts are appreciated.
"Over two days walkers will journey 39 miles helping to forever alter the lives of thousands affected by breast cancer worldwide. Together, they will unite with one purpose and one goal - to end this deadly disease. The money raised will provide women and men the breast cancer screening, support and treatment they need regardless of their ability to pay. It will also help power leading-edge research teams across the country, fueling their quest for a cure — all because of these amazing walkers & crew!
There is a formal cheering station at McCutcheon Elementary (Mile 3.3), located at 4850 N Sheridan. Peak viewing times: 8:30am - 10:15am. The Cheering Station is located on the sidewalk at the east corner of Sheridan Road and Ainslie Street."
Read more about it here. We can't find any information on the route they're taking from the previous cheering station (Orange Beautiful, 4650 N Damen) to McCutcheon, or from McCutcheon to the next cheering station (Peggy Notebaert Museum), but we are certain you'll be seeing a lot of pink-clad walkers all over Uptown on Sunday morning. Make 'em welcome!
There is also a water stop / cheering section at Chase Park!
ReplyDeleteYes, I encountered the Chase Park stop while exiting Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, there was no place in the "stopover" where people could leave donations and/or pick up information about the Walk for further reference. There weren't even any Avon catalogs or samples available! Ding-dong...Bad PR, people!
ReplyDeleteSo I hope you wrote a polite note to the Avon Walk organizers suggesting a change for next year, and didn't just come to a blog they'll never read, right?
ReplyDeleteIt's on my "to do" list.
