Gun Bust At 4242 N Sheridan

A lot of readers are reporting a large police presence at 4242 N Sheridan late this afternoon.  One reader says:  "Saw 5 cop cars out front of 4242 N Sheridan at 530pm today. A resident told me they evacuated the whole building and the FBI was involved.  Also I saw they had a shopping cart FULL of rifles/shotguns out front that I presume they seized inside.  I don't have any other information, but thought you might be interested."

Anyone live in the building who can comment on what's going on?

Update:  From the comments, "There wasn't any evacuation. They did arrest one guy that I saw and called animal control to handle his dog. The police looked pretty casual and opening the doors to let the residents in and out."

Update 2:  From Chicago Breaking News -- "Guns, Gunpowder Seized in Uptown Apartment."  Read it all here.

Update 3:  And grenades too!  From the Sun-Times.

  2. One step at a time. Hopefully this sting was a long time in the making and takes a lot of weapons off the street.

  4. So the article from the Trib states, "Investigators do not believe there was a credible threat to the Willis or to the public." Well... I guess they do not consider the people of Uptown part of the PUBLIC. With all of the shootings we have here, and to find someone with multiple fire arms, how dare they say something like that so quickly. I would like to know if they are going to test every one of those guns and compare them to crimes from Uptown. Or investigate enough to find out if this person has been supplying the gang bangers with guns. How can it be known so quickly that he has not already been a threat.

How can the Trib and or the investigators be so painfully ignorant to write or say that in an article. And if they know more than they are able to say at the moment, then they shouldn't say anything at all. I'm insulted.

  5. I live here and I'm not surprised. There are all sorts of questionable individuals living here. I guess the sue-happy management company, Horizon Realty Group should reallocate some funds from their legal bills to help screen the residents.

  6. Good work and their are many more buildings that need to be raided around Uptown. Don`t be afraid to rat out any criminal activity as the CPD needs your information in order to build a case to get these out of the hands of the gangs...

  7. Dan, I live here too, and I don't know about "questionable characters." I see a lot of white people who go to their 9-5s and older folks. Strangest people I've seen that live here are the two Mormon missionaries on floor 1.

  10. No idea who it was, though I did notice last night that whoever was living on the third floor, middle of the building has moved out. I dunno. I know none of my neighbors.

As for the Mormons, I haven't seen em for a few weeks, but I would guess they're still here.

  11. I've seen the mormon guys in the neighborhood. Funny (and I hate to say it) but you can always spot the mormons from a mile away. White shirt, black tie, and a name tag.
