Clarendon Park, Then & Now

A note from Clarendon Park Advisory Council:

Do you know the rich history of our park? In 1916 the Clarendon Beach House opened its doors in Chicago along the shore of Lake Michigan. Since then, our beautiful park has suffered from years of neglect, a slapdash dismantling of this beautiful, historic building and loss of precious park land.

Do you want to be part of reviving Clarendon Park? What do you see in our park's future?  You're invited to the first Clarendon Park Community Meeting on Thursday, May 19, 6:45 to 8 PM, at the Clarendon Park Fieldhouse (4501 N. Clarendon).  Our new alderman, James Cappleman, will be joining us.

Parks are essential to healthy, thriving communities! This meeting is sponsored by the Clarendon Park Local Advisory Council (LAC).

  1. not sure what "precious park land" was lost ... the city actually INCREASED the park space in the area when they filled in the lakefront in the 30s & again further north in the 50s ... the beach house became a field house as a result of the lakefront moving further east. no park land was lost though in the process.

  2. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend this meeting, but I'm interested in hearing about what was discussed -- anyone able to report back?
