Blocked Up Sewer Drains On 4700 Block Of Kenmore

Outside 4718 N. Kenmore
A reader writes in:
"Any thoughts on how to get the city to clean up the 4700 block of Kenmore?  It's constantly trashed and the sewer drains have been blocked up outside 4718 since the big snow storm...With the recent rain, it's even worse than the picture shows.  Standing water and the garden units in our building are now seeing symptoms of flooding patio drains and worried about their units.  We have ALL complained to the city a number of times.  They did attempt a drive by visit one day but people were parked there so they could not get to the drains. Seriously, wouldn't you think the city would put up signs to have no parking that day due to street cleaning."

  2. I work in Lincoln Park- and it's no different- I had to go out and scrape out the gunk covering the sewer for it to drain myself. You can request no parking signs for a move, I know my neighbors did it last summer. I say if you really want it fixed, do it yourself!

  3. I've called 311 about the 4718-20 sewer being plugged up. Be sure to give the exact address when reporting the problem. I've also experimented with a shovel and a long pole to see if I could remedy the situation. Unfortunately, the leaves or debris are already in the sewer and need to be removed by the city.

I have had better luck with the 1031 W Leland location and a shovel. 15 minutes of poking around a few weeks ago and the sewer grate was uncovered and drained. Regardless, both locations need more long time attention from city services. Street sweeping begins next week for these two blocks?

  4. I pass this "lake" on Kenmore every morning for work, and it's disgusting. I'm really close to giving it another shot after Tripp's work and poke around myself to clear it up. The debris has been there for such a long time, and I wonder if it was cleared earlier, the "lake" would not be as bad with leaves/debris in the sewer. Tripp, does the sewer drain line up with the one on the east side of Kenmore?

  5. You'll have better luck with a shovel or rake and clearing the crap from the drain yourself. They cleaned my street yesterday but a few idiots ignored the signs and unfortunately, they were parked on the drains.

The City that "works" .... our nerves...

  7. there's at least two more "lakes" that I know of: at magnolia and leland and also, just east of magnolia on leland.

why isn't streets & san. taking care of this? isn't that why we pay taxes?
