Around 4:30, there were multiple police vehicles, ambulances, and a large crowd gathered on the 4600 block of Broadway, near Uptown Bikes We don't know what happened, but several readers saw the crowds (and experienced the traffic jam) and wrote to ask about it. A few hours later, around 7:30pm, there was a sidewalk stabbing on the 1100 block of West Wilson, near Clifton. The victim is in serious condition; the assailant is also hospitalized in good condition. Read about it at Chicago Breaking News.
It was just about a year ago that Uptown had its first 2010 homicide, in very similar circumstances: another argument that escalated into a knife fight, on the nearby 4600 block of Magnolia. As bad as tonight's incident was, at least there was a better resolution.
Why am I not surprised that this took place right outside Wilson Men's Hotel.

Can someone please tell me what redeeming qualities the Wilson Men's Hotel brings to the neighborhood? Do they offer support groups or any type of skill training to the men who stay there?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is the property owner is taking advantage of the situation for their own benefit. The ward should level a special and very heavy tax on these type of slumlords.
I heard a rumor that this was an altercation between a Cappleman supporter and a Phelan supporter. Actually, I just made that up.
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note in recent campaign disclosure news Don Nowatny's biggest donors seem to have gone over to the Phelan side with a recent $1000 donation.
If my math is correct they gave Nowatny $15,000. I knew they had gone over to the dark side because their house and neighboring properties went from being festooned in Nowatny signs to being covered in Phelan signs if my memory is correct.
Phelan has taken in $13,500 in the last few weeks, all but $2000 from outside the ward. She also sent a letter to the state campaign authority because about $17,000 in donations had been "double counted".
Also in the last two weeks Cappleman has reported $6500 in donations all from OUTSIDE the ward. Including donations from the Teachers Union Pac and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund.
This confirms rumors that Cappleman and his partner Richard are actually gay. Who knew?
That doesn't count any cash the Capplemaniac may have taken in at his fundraiser the other night or tonight's fundraiser.
It also doesn't count the money some of you cheap asses are going to give him. Right? Right!
I for one don't want to wake up on April 6th to find out that Slick Eddy Burke and his band of sticky fingered cloutkeeters have taken over our ward. Do you? I didn't think so.
Now what does this have to do with a stabbing on Wilson? Nuttin, but it's the latest thread.
