Helicopters Circling

It sounds like the fall of Saigon in the air over Uptown, with copters circling for the past 15 minutes.

We're hearing different things, both about the 4800 block of Winthrop and a manhunt/chase on Lawrence.  Will keep trying to figure out what's up (literally), and if you have any information, please post it to the comments.

Update:  Definitely a manhunt, with officers being urged to "exercise great caution" and a search being conducted through various alleys and back yards.  Don't know if we'll ever hear the end to this story, but it would be nice to be a fly on the wall at a cop shop and learn what was going on that required the services of two police helicopters and a great many coppers.

  1. Thanks for the post - I've actually been wondering about that myself!

  2. Damn helicopters kept me awake last night. I wonder whom they were 'hunting.'

  3. I knew something was up when I got on the Red Line platform at Belmont last night. Little did I know that I'd be getting off near the heart of their search area. It'd be really great if there was some sort of alert system, via text, that told bystanders what the hell was going on.

  5. Ditto Dan.

(Actually I am sure it has something to do with Molly's thugs.) Ohh.. couldn't resist.

  6. Most days, Second City Cop is almost as good as a booth in the back of a cop bar. I haven't seen anything on this incident yet, but I haven't checked the comments, either.

  7. @ Luke... SCC doesn't post each pursuit that occurs in the city. Pursuits of 'bad guys' by the police are routine and occur dozens of times every day on a citywide basis, but you're correct that a mention could show up somewhere in the comments.

The police helicopter is not in the air 24-7, but can be requested for assistance when available or can respond to locations when they are in the air and monitor pursuits on the police 'citywide band'. Still, these things are routine for the police and usually do not rate a special mention without exigent circumstances (eg. shots fired at or by the police or injuries etc). Do keep in mind, however, that ANYONE, police or not, can comment anonymously on SCC and most are not censored.
