Positive Loitering Tonight, 7-8 PM Sheridan & Leland

From Uptown Chicago Commission:
The calendar may say October, but it still feels like summer! Please come out and join your neighbors for an hour of Positive Loitering this evening from 7-8 PM at the corner of Sheridan Rd and Leland Ave. Whether you are coming home from work or heading out for the evening, stop by for a few minutes and spend some time with your neighbors.

The event is being sponsored by the Uptown Chicago Commission and treats for our canine companions are being provided by our friends at Soggy Paws. As always, the police are aware of our presence and encourage neighborhood participation.

Bring a friend, bring a dog, bring a friend's dog! Just come out!

  1. I applaud the positive loitering efforts, and I realize that the corner of sheridan and leland is where the footage was shot last year (or was it the year before?) of the gang posturing, traffic obstruction, and throwing of beer bottles, etc. However, as a friend of mine pointed out, if the positive loitering campaign really wants to compete with the negative loitering, then they would move a block north to sheridan and lawrence. No one really hangs out at the corner of Sheridan and Leland, so we're not sure how much good loitering positively there does.

  2. Maria -- we meet at Sheridan and Leland. Usually, we move to Sheridan and Lawrence or Sheridan and Lakeside.

Incidentally, there was more street rioting on Sheridan near Leland yesterday, so it's still a hotspot. Sadly.

C'mon out and join us. The more the merrier. Bring your cell phone!

  3. Well that hellhole of a convenience store is there at lawrence and sheridan.

    Well maybe two of them.

The bodegas are quaint but tend to be the last havens for the gang crowds.

Hell move the positive loitering there.

  4. As TrumanSquareNabor mentioned, Leland & Sheridan is the meeting place for the Positive Loitering event. During the last Positive Loitering event I attended, we walked our group up to Lawrence & Sheridan and literally cleared all 4 corners of negative loitering--even had some police make a couple of arrests. S L Pantry was kind enough to offer us beverages that night.
