Help Out! Don't Hand Out

This seminar isn't taking place in Uptown, but it is a topic that affects most Uptowners. (click to enlarge)

  1. Bigger problems than this to worry about. Another armed home invasion in Lakeview, yuppie awakens to ghetto monster holding a gun on him. Pistol whipped the people, tied up and robbed. 13XX W. Barry. Have an alarm ? A good time to use it. A big mean dog ? A huge plus. Own a handgun and know how to use it ? Bleeping golden ! No alarm or dog ? Old fashioned way of detecting intruders/rapists/criminals: Place cans and bottles in front of doors or on window ledges. Bad guys come in and knock over bottles, you take appropriate action. Tie two glass bottles together with string, forming a makeshift "tripwire". Position string across areas where monsters are likely to enter. Be careful and be safe. Living in a high rise: Golden. Ghetto monsters from the Southside like "shopping" on the "well to do" Northside. This is not a new concept.

  2. This isn't "choose your own topic." This has nothing to do with home invasions and how to prevent them and where home invaders come from.

    This is a PANHANDLING SEMINAR.

If you have an agenda to talk about, please take it to the UU Forum.

That's so true Peppers. There is a guy in a wheelchair sown on Ohio & Clark. He's there all the time by the Walgreens. I asked him one day where he lived. He said, and I quote, "on the far Southside" I asked him why he comes all the way here and he said, "The brothers aren't gonna give me money, this is where the money comes from". Stop giving money to the panhandlers, most of them use it for drugs and booze anyway. You're only "feeding" their habits. Some people REALLY need the help like the old and disabled, but the young panhandlers? It's for drugs & booze. Don't know if this guy really needs the wheelchair but I went in Walgreens and bought him some food. Don't give them money.

  4. I'm going to take pepperspraycommando's strategy and comment about something totally irrelevant to the topic.

MAN I HATE THESE PRIVATE PARKING METERES!!! WHERE IS THE ALDERMAN??? WHAT'S WITH THE BEARS THIS PAST SUNDAY?

In all honesty whenever I get pan handled I tell them "I'm sorry but I am not giving out any money today." or "Times are hard for me too." Too truths which tend to work for me.

Also remember if a panhandler tries to follow you and panhandle that is against the law and you have the right to call CPD.
